Robin Williams, Mimes and Mimetic Desire

The picture above is of Robin Williams as a mime in Central Park prior to Mork and Mindy.  As the story goes, Williams would entertain onlookers for hours as he sashayed up behind them when strolling through the park and took on their personality and characteristics of his subject, no matter male or female, young or old, as a good mime would do. We can only imagine the fun.

Mimetic desire is a theory espoused by brilliant French philosopher Rene Girard, according to which all desire is mimetic (i.e. all of our desires are borrowed from other people), that all conflict originates in mimetic desire(mimetic rivalry).

Miming is a most ancient art, and though inherently morally neutral, I bet it started with the prince of darkness himself.  Satan’s desire was to be like God, and his desire was mimetic.  Isaiah 14 portrays Satan as saying “I will make myself like the Most High”;

12“How you have fallen from heaven,
[g]star of the morning, son of the dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth,
You who have weakened the nations!
13“But you said in your heart,
‘I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne above the stars of God,
And I will sit on the mount of assembly
In the recesses of the north.
14 ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.’

From the dawn of history God’s people have had to deal with this reality, and the children of Satan who mimic their master by mimicking God’s people.

“For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness” – 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” – Matthew 7:15

Followers of Christ, who know this truth, nevertheless don’t really seem to know this. Our government, media, Hollywood, educational system masquerade as angels of light and fool us with ease.  They call black white, and white black, and we will believe them wholeheartedly and follow them blindly and willynilly. Yet we received advance notice;

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” Isaiah 5:20

Most of America’s wars have started with a false flag event, blamed on our enemy but perpetrated by ourselves or our allies, that has gotten the public, even the Christian public, behind America’s war agenda.

We at look to expose those who the church misguidedly believes are allies but are in fact wolves in sheep’s clothing.

From our perspective mimicry is used in two primary ways.  First, those who are against Christ will mimic Christ, the church and Christianity in various ways.  They will take on characteristics of Christ and his followers in order to appear to be one, whether to pull them away from the truth in a sort of bait and switch, or to confuse them so that they can slide an other agenda under their nose.

Second, enemies of Christ will mimic his followers in order to infiltrate Christ’s church, or other organizations in His service.  This they due in order to subvert the organization and derail it from it’s purpose.

Thus we must be vigilant to know the truth of Christ and his teaching, so it cannot be subverted.  Also, we must be quick to identify those who mimic Him and his followers in order to damage His kingdom and its advance.
